Study in China from Bangladesh: CSC Scholarships and What to Watch For

China takes more Bangladeshi students than most people here assume, especially into engineering and medicine. The funding is substantial and the tuition at many universities is low by Western standards.

It also has the messiest agent market of any destination we deal with, so this article spends more time on what to check than on what to celebrate.

CSC, the government scholarship

The Chinese Government Scholarship, administered through the China Scholarship Council, is the main funded route. Depending on the category it can cover tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend and medical insurance.

You can apply through several channels. Directly to a Chinese university that participates, through the Chinese embassy in Dhaka, or via certain bilateral programmes. The university channel is where most of our students have had the best results, because you are assessed by a department that wants students in your field rather than against a general pool.

Chinese universities also run their own institutional scholarships, provincial governments run theirs, and these are often easier to win than CSC itself. Ask each university what it offers rather than assuming CSC is the only door.

If you are going for MBBS

This is the one that needs care, because it is where Bangladeshi students get hurt most often.

Medicine in China is heavily marketed by agents here, and the marketing is frequently misleading. Before you accept any offer, check three things yourself.

Whether the programme is taught in English for its full duration, including the clinical years. Some students discover in year three that ward rounds happen in Chinese.

Whether the university is on the list your home regulator recognises. If you intend to practise in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council's recognition and its registration requirements are what decide whether your degree is usable. Find out before you go, in writing, not after graduation.

What the licensing path actually looks like when you come home, including any qualifying examination. A degree you cannot register with is an expensive souvenir.

We have met students who found all this out too late. It is a genuinely avoidable disaster and the check takes an afternoon.

Language

Many degrees, particularly at master's level and in engineering, run fully in English. Undergraduate programmes more often expect Chinese, sometimes after a preparatory year.

CSC awards frequently include language study. As with Japan and Korea, treat that year as part of the value rather than a delay.

The agent problem

China has more unaccredited intermediaries selling admissions than anywhere else we work with. The tells are the same as everywhere: guaranteed admission, guaranteed scholarship, payment into a personal account, a university you cannot find on an official list.

Every Chinese university that takes international students has an admissions office with an email address on its own domain. Write to it. Ask whether your agent represents them and whether your offer is genuine. It is free.

Who China suits

Engineering, IT and science students who want strong funding and are open to Asia. Students whose families cannot fund the West and who would rather have a funded place at a solid Chinese university than a self-funded one somewhere more famous.

Medicine applicants only if they have done the recognition homework above, properly, before paying anyone.

Before you start

Shortlist universities from official lists, contact their international admissions offices directly, and ask each one what scholarship categories you are eligible for.

CSC categories, stipend levels and deadlines are revised annually, and recognition rules for medical degrees change too. Message us on WhatsApp with your field and results and we will check the current position with you before you commit to anything.
